A Supreme Court bench comprising of Chief Justice TS Thakur, Justice C. Nagappan and Justice A.M Khanwilkar on October 3 said that the Court can stop the commercial use of jokes on Sikhs by media platforms but it will be really tough to stop the use of jokes by individuals. The bench directed the SGPC, DSGMC, HSGPC and the Management Committee of Takhat Sri Patna Sahib to thoroughly deliberate upon it and present the suggestions to the Court about it. Meanwhile, the Court deferred the next hearing on the case to four weeks.
The petition seeking the ban on the jokes on the Sikh community was moved by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. The Court earlier asked the DSGMC to prepare a dossier on how to impose the ban on the jokes.
