There is one fortress (the human body) in which five tax collectors live, and all five demand payment of taxes. Bhagat Kabeer, Guru Granth Sahib, 793

Message:Through this beautiful poetic metaphor, Bhagat Kabir uses the example of an oppressive governmental revenue system that oppresses our poor soul. Daily, the weak and poor mind is harassed by five revenue officers (five vices: lust, anger, greed, worldly attachment, and arrogance).

We must make a conscious effort to fight these wicked forces through good company and counsel, so the mind can avoid negative impulses and channel its energy to attain wisdom.

By the grace of the Divine and individuals continuous effort, the mind is transformed to cultivate good attitudes and good behaviour. The mind is then free to experience inner peace and live in the present moment wisely.
