BREAKING: Big Jolt to Akali Dal as Tohra Group Says Goodbye

PATIALA, Punjab—After getting side-lined from the Shiromani Akali Dal, Harmel Singh Tohra (the son-in-law of Akali stalwart late Gurcharan Singh Tohra) has formally resigned from the membership of Akali Dal.  Harmail Singh Tohra had earlier started a word war against the ruling Akali Dal’s President and Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Badal.  Harmail Singh Tohra was at one time cabinet minister of Punjab and was seen a respectful Akali leader.

Having resigned from the Akali Dal, Harmail Singh Tohra has now formally joined the Aam Aadmi Party.  Along with Harmail Singh, his wife Kuldeep Kaur and their son Harinderpal Singh along with several other Tohra supporters, joined AAP and announced unconditional support in presence of prominent leaders including Sanjay Singh, Kanwar Sandhu, Bhagwant Mann and Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi.

Speaking with Sikh24, Harmail Singh said that his wife, Kuldeep Kaur, was denied a ticket for the polls by Sukhbir Badal on the grounds of financial weakness.  Harmel Singh Tohra is in miff over the cancellation of his wife Kuldeep Kaur’s ticket for the assembly polls by SAD from Patiala (Rural). Youth Akali leader Satbir Singh Khatra (son of former IG Police Ranbir Singh Khatra) is expected to contest the election from this constituency.

Harmel Singh Tohra said that the current Akali leadership doesn’t accept honest candidates. “Politics with money and money from politics” is the aim of the Sukhbir Badal led Shiromani Akali Dal.

“Sukhbir Badal has no value of social service, honesty and loyalty. He doesn’t like honest people. Sukhbir wants to loot people, befool them and make false promises to them. His only motive is to loot public money and then use this ill-gotten money in elections to purchase votes,’’ said miffed Tohra in Madaur village of Patiala (rural) assembly segment.
