Speaking with Sikh24’s correspondent, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that Bhai Bira’s parole plea was earlier denied by the lower Court.  He added that the order for parole has now been issued by the Punjab & Haryana High Court. He said that Bhai Bira was not been granted parole by Punjab government due to his association with former militant leader Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu.

Bhai Balbir Singh Singh was arrested in 2009 along with his wife Sukhjinder Kaur and framed in numerous false cases.  Previously, Bhai Bira had already served 14 years in Jammu Jail.  While in August 2014, his wife was released from prison, his detainment continued there.

Since 2009, Bhai Balbir Singh has been framed in almost one dozen cases, including the murder of Lilly Sharma, a follower of the Sirsa cult of Sacha Sauda.  He has now been acquitted in nine cases. It is noteworthy that Bhai Bira was on the list of Sikh political prisoners handed over to the DGP by Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa Bandi Singh Rehai Sangharsh Committee.
