Taking a dig at Punjab Pradesh Congress Committees head Captain, Amarinder Singh, for his statement that all the Congress MLAs and MPs will resign if SC verdicts against Punjab. Sukhbir Badal said that Congress would lose nothing if 3 out of the total 40 MPs resign. He added that he will toil and wont let even a single drop of water go to other states.
Earlier, Sukhbir Badal said that Punjab will not have a single drop of water to spare. He stated that his government will not refrain from making any sacrifices to defend the state rights over its waters.
Notably, the Satluj-Yamuna Link Canal Land (Transfer of Proprietary Rights) Act-2016 presented by the Akali government was passed unanimously in the Punjab assembly on March 14. It was decided to de-notify the land acquired from farmers for the SYL-Canal project and return it back to them free of cost. While the Governors assent to Bill was being awaited, the Haryana government moved to the Supreme Court seeking annulation of the Satluj-Yamuna Link Canal Land (Transfer of Proprietary Rights) Act-2016 passed by the Punjab government.
