:dateline:Former BJP Member Parliament from Patiala and Amritsar, Navjot Singh Sidhu today resigned from the membership of Rajya Sabha. He was nominated for Rajya Sabha membership by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April thisyear.

With Sidhu’s resignation, a new wave of speculations has emerged among the political circles of Punjab where masses are deliberating upon Sidhu’s possible future actions.

Interacting with media about his resignation from the Rajya Sabha membership, Navjot Sidhu termed the post as burden. At behest of PM, I had accepted RS nomination for the welfare of Punjab. With closure of every window leading to Punjab’s betterment, the purpose stands defeated, now a mere burden. I prefer not to carry it. In the war of right or wrong, you cant afford to be neutral rather than being self-centered. Punjabs interest is paramount, said Sidhu.

Internal sources within BJPs Punjab leadership have said that the exit of Navjot Sidhu from BJP was forthcomingbut they blamed him forusing his Rajya Sabha membership toleverage his political deal with AAPs National Convener Arvind Kejriwal. Reacting to Navjot Sidhus exit, Bhagwant Mann said that AAP was ready to welcome Navjot Sidhu if he wants to join the party for the welfare of Punjab.

When asked if Sidhu would be joining AAP, Punjab in-charge Sanjay Singh said: When the time is right a formal announcement will be made. I think to make a better Punjab, Navjot Singh has taken this step. This will save Punjab.

Rumours of projecting Navjot Sidhu as face for Chief Minister of Punjab are also circulating across the country. However, AAPs senior leaders have denied it.

It is noteworthy here that Navjot Sidhu has not till resigned from basic membership of BJP.
