Newly Appointed Congress’ Incharge Under Fire; Captain Says No One Is ‘Sacred Cow’ In Punjab Politics

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The newly appointed secretary-incharge of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Asha Kumari, is under fire by the ruling Akali Dal, Bhartiya Janta Party and the Aam Aadmi Party.

Asha Kumari is a Congress MLA from Himachal who has been appointed in the place of Kamal Nath, an accused of 27Fir14.qxp1984’s Sikh Genocide. Kamal Nath had to quit from the new post three days after his appointment due to his alleged role in 1984’s Sikh genocide.

Opposition parties are airing the name of Asha Kumari in property scam in which she was held guilty by the Court and was convicted.

However, refuting the allegations, Asha Kumari clarified that she was involved in a dispute of a house that was owned by her father-in-law but the tenants acquired the property with the help of forged documentation. She admitted that she was held guilty and convicted by the lower court but also explained that her conviction was suspended by the High Court.

Lashing out at opponents, PPCC’s head Captain Amarinder Singh said that none among the Punjab politicians is a ‘sacred cow’. He added that prominent personalities among Akali-BJP alliance like Bibi Jagir Kaur, Tota Singh, Navjot Singh Sidhu have been convicted by the Court in cases related to serious offences. Justifying the appointment of Asha Kumari, he said that Asha Kumari has good credentials.
