NEW DELHI—Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has termed the appointment of SIT (Special Investigation Team) to probe Sikh genocide of 1984 by the Indian Government as mere a show off.  Expressing his disappointment with the Union Government appointed SIT, Kejriwal wrote a letter to the Indian Prime Minister Narindra Modi seeking permission for appointing a new SIT.  Kejriwal expressed that appointment of an independent SIT is the only way to find out actual facts behind the Sikh massacres.

“I would urge you to either get your SIT to do something or kindly wind up this SIT and allow the Delhi government to set up an SIT which will do proper investigations and get justice for the victims,” Kejriwal said during a press conference on June 6.  Incidentally, his statements seeking installation of a fresh SIT coincided with 1984 June Sikh massacres when the Indian Government killed thousands of innocent Sikh pilgrims at Sri Harmandir Sahib.

During the press conference, Kejriwal said that it was very unfortunate that the victims of Sikh Genocide of 1984 are deprived of justice even after 32 years.

Kejriwal said that the SIT was opened just days before Delhi assembly elections in order to lure Sikh voters.  He questioned why the SIT has not opened a single case since it was launched.

The Union government of India had appointed SIT to re-probe cases of Sikh Genocide of 1984 on February 12, 2015. Initially, SIT was instructed to submit its report within six months but later its validity was extended without specification of any reason.

RTI Cell Incharge of Aam Admi Party, Dinesh Chadha had earlier made the Union government to clarify that why the validity of SIT was extended.  In a response obtained through RTI (Right to Information Act), it was learnt that there was no reason for extending SIT’s validity.
