MOGA, Punjab—Akal Takht Sahib Interim Jathedar, Bhai Dhian Singh Mand was today released from police custody and placed under home arrest. Bhai Dhian Singh Mand was arrested yesterday by the Ferozepur police on precautionary measures.
Sikh Activist Bhai Papalpreet Singh told Sikh24 that the Punjab Government is likely taking this step to stop Bhai Mand from addressing the Sikh Sangat from Akal Takht Sahib on June 6. “This is likely being done to keep Bhai Mand from delivering a speech from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 6. This is a direct interference in Sikh matters by the Punjab Government,” Bhai Papalpreet Singh said.
Bhai Papalpreet Singh said that a meeting is currently ongoing between members of Panthik organizations and deputy Punjab chief Minister Sukhbir Badal to discuss these issues.
After being put on house arrest, Sikh sangat has started coming to see Bhai Mand although everyone visiting is being questioned by the police.
Bhai Dhian Singh Mand was appointed as the interim Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib by Sarbat Khalsa 2015 organizers. Since his appointment, he was been arrested by the Punjab police multiple times.
