CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Punjab & Haryana High Court has deferred the hearing on habeas petition moved by Bhai Ravinder Jeet Singh Gogi against illegal detention of his father Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa to July 18.
Talking with Sikh24’s correspondent, Bhai Gogi informed that he had moved the habeas petition in the High Court following the unnecessary interruption by the Jagraon police to Bapu Surat Singh’s family members at the Dayanand Medical College & Hospital.
While the court had deferred hearing of the petition, Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa was discharged and transferred to his home in village Hassanpur on May 30 by the Police authorities in wake of pre-scheduled hearing on the habeas petition on May 31. With deferring of hearing on the case to July 18, chances of re-arrest of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa are abundant. Sources close to Bapu Surat Singh have informed Sikh24 that the physique of Bapu Surat Singh Ji Khalsa has worsened in the illegal custody at DMCH.
Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has been on hunger strike since January 16, 2015 seeking release of political Sikh prisoners who have served mandatory terms of their sentences but still are languishing across jails.
