Panthik Activist and Kirtani Bibi Baljinder Kaur (Phagwara) Passes Away

PHAGWARA, Punjab—Prominent panthik activist and kirtani, Bibi Baljinder Kaur ji from Phagwara passed away on May 15 at 4 AM.  Bibi Baljinder Kaur had an ongoing battle with cancer.

Bibi Baljinder Kaur refused chemotherapy as she did not want removal of kesh from her body.  She breathed her last breath at the DMC hospital where she was undergoing treatment.

Bibi Baljinder Kaur will be remembered for starting the first “Guru Granth Sahib Ji Sarkar Committee” in Punjab.  Bibi Baljinder Kaur had great amount of respect for Guru Granth Sahib and she led a campaign to preserve satkar throughout Phagwara and nearby areas.  

Bhenji was also a prominent kirtani with the Akhand Kirtani Jatha.  She was respected for being a proficient reader of Guru Granth Sahib ji and did seva doing Akhand Path Sahib’s throughout Punjab as a Nishakaam (self-less) sevak.  Bhenji traveled extensively in Punjab, throughout India and North America doing nishkaam kirtan seva.

Bhenji will also be remembered for holding kirtan programs and akhand path sahibs for chardi kala of Sikh freedom fighters in early 1990s.
