AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—During a press conference held at Sri Amritsar on May 1, President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) S. Simranjit Singh Mann announced to appoint Sikh activist Bhai Papalpreet Singh as Chief Organizing Secretary of its youth wing.  Bhai Papalpreet Singh has been serving the families of martyred Singhs from a long time.

While speaking at the conference, S. Mann said that Papalpreet Singh’s inclusion in the party will strengthen the youth wing.  He appreciated Papalpreet Singh’s work on various Panthik projects.  It is notable that along with several other Sarbat Khalsa organizations, Papalpreet Singh’s name was booked under sedition charges.  He was given bail on March 15 by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.  While Papalpreet Singh played a key role in organizing the event at Village Chabba last year in November 2015, he was booked under sedition changes for reading a letter by Bhai Naryan Singh Chaura, a Sikh political prisoner currently serving his sentence.

Speaking at the conference, S. Mann also strongly condemned the misrepresentation of Sikh activists by the mainstream media portals.  He said that on the directions of Intelligence agencies, editors of mainstream newspapers uses words like ‘hardliners’, ‘ultra’, ‘extremist’, ‘militants’ etc. for the Sikh activists. He questioned the media why they were so biased towards Sikh activists.

Talking with Sikh24’s correspondent after his appointment as the Chief Organizing Secretary, Bhai Papalpreet Singh said that he has been given the responsibility to build ground level infrastructure of Youth Akali Dal (Amritsar) across the Indian sub-continent. He said that he was committed to serve the party and follow expections set by the leaders.

Bhai Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala, Bhai Jarnail Singh Sakhira, Bhai Karam Singh Bhoian, Bhai Navdeep Singh, Dr. Sharanjit Singh Rataul, Bhai Pritpal Singh and others were present on this occasion alongwith hundreds of other party workers.
