Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa Welcomes Prof. Bhullar and Bhai Khera’s Release

2016-04-20_bapu_surat_singhLUDHIANA, Punjab—Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has welcomed the release of Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar and Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera.  While Bhai Khera was released yesterday on April 22, Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar was discharged today on parole.  Bapu Surat Singh did ardas for the chardi kala of Sikh political prisoners and said he was happy to see these Singhs reunited with their families after two decades.

“This would not have been possible without the efforts of the Sikh Sangat and Panthik jathebandis who remained steadfast for Sikh political prisoners.  Even to this date, Sikh Sangat living worldwide has remain committed to seek release of political prisoners,” Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa told Sikh24.  When asked about his own year long struggle, Bapu Surat Singh said that he knew from day one that this would be a difficult path, however, he said his struggle doesn’t compare to the hardships faced by political prisoners who have spent much of their lives behind bars.

It is notable that Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has been struggling for the release of political prisoners since January 16, 2015.  Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar and Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera’s release is being seen as a fruit to Bapu Ji’s struggle.  So far, pressure mounted by 1 year long hunger protest has led to –

1. Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar’s release
2. Bhai Waryam Singh’s release
3. Bhai Hardeep Singh’s release
4. Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera’s release
5. Bhai Baj Singh’s release
6. Bhai Makhan Singh Gill’s parole

Bapu Surat Singh appreciated efforts by the entire Panth and dedicated Jathebandis for the release of Sikh political prisoners.  Not taking any credit despite almost a year long struggle, Bapu Surat Singh said that it was with the blessings of Guru Ji and the dedication of Panthik Sikh organizations that a number of prisoners were released.
