Nanak! The devotee, who, serving the Guru becomes the servant of the Divine, neither sees anyone as enemy or foe, nor bad. – Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, Page 400

Message: A devotee places faith in the teachings of Gurbani. Unwavering in this faith and as a servant of the Divine, he or she understands that, because each has a divine spark inside, we are all an equal part of a greater whole. As such, there is no discrimination; there is neither an enemy nor a friend nor a person who is bad. We abide by hukam, playing the roles that the Divine has mapped out for us.

With the Divine as our support and Gurbani guiding us through life, there is nothing to worry about. Setting aside our delusions, we slowly become enlightened; we are able to control the senses that create doubt and disturbance in our minds.

When the wise realize the Self, formless in the midst of forms, changeless in the midst of change, omnipresent and supreme, they go beyond all sorrow. Kath Upanishad

Etymology: From Sanskrit ma?d (dull, slow, idle, weak, bad) ? Pali ma?d (slow, lazy, stupid) ? Prakrit ma?d (slow, lazy, small, base) ? Sindhi ma?do (bad, wicked) and Lahndi/Punjabi ma?daa (evil, bad).
