Secretary General of Sikh Council UK, Gurmel Singh said, “Sikhs across the world are shocked by this incidence against a place of worship of the peaceful, tolerant and respectful Sikh community. Our thoughts and prayers at this time are with the injured and their families.
He added, This bombing is a brutal act of violence that has no place in civilised society. Any such act of violence against any community is to be condemned. Gurdwaras, as well as being a place of worship, are a place of sanctuary and help for any person in need of whatever background. I am pleased to see the local community have rallied to the Sikh community at this difficult time.
Chair of the European & International Affairs Committee of Sikh Council UK, Paramjit Kaur Matharu said, “Sikh Council UK reiterates its advice for Sikhs to always remain calm and vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour or attacks whilst proudly practicing their faith and being supportive and participating fully in their wider community.
She added, We are writing to the German Ambassador in the UK and others to call on the German authorities to mount a full investigation into this incidence as a hate crime and for strong action to ensure those responsible for the violence are bought to justice. Whilst details at this stage are scarce, we are mindful this act is committed in a climate and against a backdrop of increasing terrorist attacks and activity by extremists including far right and Islamist groups. We are closely monitoring developments and are in regular contact with Gurdwara Parbhandhaks (management) and local Sewadars (volunteers).
