:dateline:EcoSikh, a U.S. based environmental Sikh group, and the Akhand Kirtani Jatha have joined hands to serve organic langar throughout the holy city of Amritsar during this upcoming Vaisakhi.� EcoSikh has been�holding camps and events to educate people about the merits of organic farming and the detrimental effects of using toxic pesticides.
Both organizations will be serving organic langar from April 10 to 13 at Sewa Singh Hall (Sultanwind Road) in Amritsar.� All langar will be made by local Akhand Kirtani Jatha and EcoSikh sevadars in hopes of raising awareness about�organic farming in Punjab.� It is estimated that over 50,000 organic meals will be served throughout the program.
While serving organic langar, EcoSikh will be setting up stalls and passing out literature talking about organic farming.� The Akhand Kirtani Jatha is scheduled to also hold all night-long programs for the 4 days in Amritsar as part of the event.
Bhai RP Singh of the Akhand Kirtani Jatha said, �The environmental issues taken by EcoSikh are really commendable.� It is important that we make Punjabis know about global warming.� If we don�t take concrete steps now, it will be too late.�
EcoSikh has been leading environmental initiatives in Punjab. �Amongst several of its initiatives, EcoSikh has been working with Gurdwaras to grow and harvest their own organic produce and to serve toxic-pesticide free langar. �Similarly, it has organized several seminars on global warming in Punjab.
