(A saintly person is one) for whom friends and enemies are alike and who knows of no other than the Divine (i.e. he or she sees the One Divine in all). -Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, Page 392

Message: Saintly beings are so attuned to the Divine that they see the Divine presence in each and every person around them. There is nothing other than the Divine presence. In such a frame of mind, there is no differentiation between friend and foe; everyone is treated alike, with love, without enmity, hatred or vengeance.

This state of mind is calm, unruffled and benevolent. Benevolence is silent goodwill; it has no particular form but like sunlight it can filter into the quiet corners of a persons mind and lighten the burden. To be on the receiving end of benevolence is to receive something and there is no way to reciprocate the gift. Can divine love be returned in full measure by any of us?

Change your thoughts and you change your world. Dr Norman Vincent Peale, author, 1898-1993

Etymology: From Sanskrit/Pali samaan (same, alike, equal).
