DADAR, Mumbai, India—After watching the Santa Banta Pvt Ltd Movie at Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha in Bidar, Mumbai, local Sikhs described the movie as “highly objectionable.”  They held a meeting with the movie executive director, Akashdeep Sabir, and watched the movie.

“We held a long meeting here today, March 19, at the Gurdwara Sahib in Dadar Mumbai.  Executive Director Akashdeep Sabir also joined us in the discussions.  We are saddened to inform you that the movie is full of mockery of the Sikhs,” said the local Sikhs.

“Even if the movie was to be edited to take out certain parts, it will still not work as it mocks the Sikhs from the beginning to the end,” they added.  The local Sikhs appealed to other Sikh organizations and gurdwara committees to take a strict stance on the movie and protest it so it is not released.

Santa Banta Pvt Ltd is scheduled to be released on April 22, 2016 and revolves around two characters who are shown as Sikhs.  The movie was earlier given the green light by the Censor Board and the Union Government of India, however, the decision was challenged by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee in the Delhi High Court.

Akashdeep Sabir, the director, stated, “Please see the film and you will realise they are doing a certain act for a reason and not because they are jokers.”  Sabir, the crew, and the singers (Diljit Dosanjh and Mika in particular) have faced the criticism of Sikhs on social media for their contribution to this movie.

  1. **SANTA BANTA???** Why Ridicule Those Who Ask For Sarbat Da Bhalla? | ਬਹੁ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਾਲਿਓ,ਅਸੀਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਵਿਗਾੜਿਅਾ ਕੀ ਹੈ | Dhadrianwale

Bhai Ranjit Singh Khalsa Dhadrianwale asks the majority communities what has made them into enemies of the house of Guru Nanak? What has the Sikh community done to deserve being ridiculed in the entertainment industry, what has led to the birth of disgraceful “Santa Banta” jokes?

Sikhs have always been in the forefront of serving mankind, without prejudice. Even in the current times, where there’s a natural disaster, you will find organisations like Khalsa Aid ready to provide relief. What harm has the nation that continuously prays for ‘Sarbat Da Bhalla’ done to these so-called majority communities?

Bhai Ranjit Singh Khalsa tells these people that even though we are a minority community, at least look at our work around the world…why are they trying to kill the Sikhs before they are even born through drugs?

Important questions are put to the majority community during this Diwaan on 2 April 2016 at village Littar near Raikot, in which 204 people became Amrtidhari.

  2. Very well said veerji! India Government are making a mockery of us Sikhs – We must joint together like in the past and ensure that this film is banned. I am disgusted at the singers Daljit Dosanjh and Mika they are embarrassement to us – ban them too! Ban Daljit coming to the UK next month….. He is no sikh anyway and I cannot understand why he wears a dastaar…..
Lets us unite and not show our unity!!

  3. If you really believe that then presumably you will demand that the films the Indian Government and its censorship board have banned featuring Sikhs such as Delhi 1984, Kaum De Heere, Amu, Hawayein and The Mastermind Jinda Sukha also be allowed to be shown in India? No, of course not because those films show Sikhs in positive light and even depict circumstances sure to prick conscience whereas the hypocrites only want to present Sikhs in negative light and as foolish Santo Banto cariacatures that they can laugh at and encourage others to laugh at too. That’s exactly what the Nazi’s did in the run up to their extermination of the Jews by feeding their population consistent negative and derogatory imagery of Jews during the 1930s so as to dehumansie the Jewish people and decouple them from the Germanic body so that they too could be seen by the wider German population in time as being ‘trouble makers’ and ‘not really Aryans’ paving the way for closing of eyes and mouths when those same Jews were persecuted and discriminated against. In 1984 the Indian Sarkar banned Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom temporarily for its “negative” depiction of Indians but in 2016 it is quite content for Sikhs in their distinctive and identifying dastaars to be depicted as figures of fun and mockery rather than the heroes they really are.
