Even if one owns an empire, abundant property and enjoys absolute command, still, the mind is not satisfied and its thirst is not quenched. – Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, Page 373
Message: How much property does one need to own to be truly satisfied? How lavish a home brings true happiness and comfort? How many people do you need under your command to feel truly empowered? Each of us would have a different answer. The mind seems to be leading us in this yearning to accumulate more and more. We try to satisfy it. Yet it remains restless.
It should be obvious by now that the mind needs something more. It needs something more than what the physical body and the material world outside has to offer. Our inability to understand our inner yearning cuts the mind off from the power source that sustains it. It will remain restless, it will remain thirsty until such a time when the body and mind together harness the power of the divine in us.
Etymology: From Arabic milk (property; possession) from malk (to own, to control), which also gave us maalik (owner, master), malkiat (property), mulak (country), and malkaa (queen), etc.
Money has never made man happy, nor will it, there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has the more one wants. – Benjamin Franklin, 1706 -1790
