Fine garments, beautiful ornaments and many other exquisite pleasures – I consider these too as of no value (without the union with the Beloved) – Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, Page 373

Message: Our worldly desires have taken a very strong hold on our lives. We look outside of ourselves for joy and fulfilment. The joy of wearing beautiful, branded clothes and priceless ornaments seems to be unparalleled. We thrive in being surrounded by material comfort and having our sensual pleasures satisfied. Pampering the body has become part and parcel of a desired lifestyle. Though these are perceived as very satisfying experiences, but how satisfying are these over a span of time? How long after is the mind restless again for a new sensual experience? How valuable are these material experiences to us?

The mind is aware of something beyond the physical confines of the body, something the unconscious human has not yet learned to see. We need to understand this dimension. We need to be aware of an eternal entity that exists within our physical body, the part the mind sees. The mind will remain restless until it has forged a connection between this and our worldly outer persona.

Etymology: From Sanskrit vastra (dress).

If most of us are ashamed of shabby clothes and shoddy furniture let us be more ashamed of shabby ideas and shoddy philosophies…It would be a sad situation if the wrapper were better than the meat wrapped inside it. ?Albert Einstein
