EXCLUSIVE: Message by Jathedar Jagtar Singh Hawara from Tihar Jail, March 2016

Bhai Hawara behind barsNEW DELHI—The following message by Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was issued to the Sikh Panth.  Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara has once again appealed for unity and has made several other appeals.  This message was provided by Advocate Amar Singh Chahal to Pehredar Daily and is being published in English for the benefit of our readers.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa | Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh || to the Guru Panth.

I am wholeheartedly thankful to the Sikh masses for appointing me as the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib during Sarbat Khalsa 2015.  I pray to Waheguru to bless me to serve my duties as per Sikh tenets.  With Guru’s blessings, I have served more than two decades of my life while serving the Sikh nation, and pray that I can serve the Panth till my last breath.

Following my appointment as the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, I appealed to Sikh bodies to unite on common platform to tackle the challenges in front of the Sikh nation.  However unfortunately, till date I have not received appreciable response on the concern.  I once again appeal to all Sikh organizations at home and abroad to work in cooperation of each other for the betterment of the Sikh panth. Sikh diaspora could also play a vital role in this regard, however their internal clashes have pained me more than the torture by the police.

I had suggested appointing a common executive committee of all Sikh organizations to unite the Sikh masses on a common platform.  This committee should work to chalk out strategies and tackle emerging challenges in front of the Sikh nation.  The Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib should also work as per the directives of this executive committee. Shiromani Akali Dal and SGPC have immensely harmed the Sikh community only to retain their dominance over supreme Sikh temporal posts.  Hereby, I want to make some suggestions to Sikh community –

  1. All Sikh organizations should work towards achieving unity
  2. All political and religious issues should be resolved whilst taking feedback from everyone
  3. Unbiased Sikh personalities should work towards preaching Sikh principles
  4. Sikh diaspora should boycott all those religious and political personalities that have caused damage to the Panth
  5. Polarization of Sikh masses towards other political parties while ignoring sacrifices of Panthik organizations will never prove good for the Panth
  6. I humbly request the Panth to stand with the Sikh personalities and organizations who have suffered immense torture for the Sikh panth, including imprisonment and facing police torture.  If today, we don’t stand with them, it will discourage them and the future generations to work for the Panth
  7. Existence of Punjab and Sikh community will remain safe only in the hands Panthik activists, and not in the hands of those who have used derogatory terms for the likes of Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale
  8. Sikh diaspora should step up efforts to ensure release of Sikh political prisoners languishing in jails from more than two decades
  9. I am grateful to the organizers of the World Sikh Convention for taking such an appreciable initiative for the Chardi Kala of the Sikh Panth. I pray to Waheguru for their high spirit.

Servant of Guru Panth,
Jagtar Singh Hawara,
Jathedar, Sri Akal Takht Sahib
Sri Amritsar Sahib
