Jathedar Baljit Singh Daduwal: Sarbat Khalsa 2016 Should Be called on Diwali

ZIRA, Punjab—After a court appearance at Zira on March 1, 2016, Jathedar Baljit Singh Daduwal of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib (appointed at Sarbat Khalsa 2015) stated that the Sarbat Khalsa 2016 should be called on Bandi Chhor Divas (Diwali) this year.  He asked Panthik jathebandis to unite and decide upon Sarbat Khalsa 2016.

Jathedar Daduwal’s court appearance was due to his indictment for participating in a mass protest which blocked the Harike bridge last October. The protest occurred during the unrest across Punjab following the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Jathedar Daduwal said that the Sarbat Khalsa 2015 caused the Punjab government to tremble and that the government had crossed all limits when it committed atrocities against the organizers by arresting and jailing them.

“Calling Sarbat Khalsa around Diwali would give ample time to gather feedback from Sikh Sangat across the World,” said Bhai Daduwal.  “All proposed resolutions and feedback should be first shared with Sikh Sangat living worldwide, so Sikhs can decide upon which resolutions to pass,” he added.

Initially, the Sarbat Khalsa 2016 was scheduled for Vaisakhi, but Jathedar Daduwal explained that the delay is due to the fact that organizers are being held in separate jails after being arrested following the Sarbat Khalsa 2015.  He added that the resolutions that will be discussed at the Sarbat Khalsa 2016 should be circulated to Sikhs worldwide.

Earlier, Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara had asked the Akal Takht Sahib Punj Piare who were dismissed by the SGPC to facilitate Sarbat Khalsa 2016.  He had asked all Sikh Organizations to unite for the event.

  1. Remember to follow the philosophy of Guruji of “Ujado Ujado”

No one place in world is safe . We are all prone to destruction by

    1) WMD
    2) Genocides
    3) Epidemics
    4) Meteors
    5) Earth burning up by the expanding Sun in 4 billion years from now.

To prevent it we need a presence in every village ,city , state ,Nation ,Continent , Planets , Galaxies to ensure our safety.

    • Sikhism demands that Sikhs engage with the world not run away from it when things get tough. We are not an an aesthetic ‘hide in a cave’ religion but a moral force for good that demands active engagement and confrontation to ritualism and injustice. Your idea seems to be that SIkhs should keep a low profile – exact opposite to what Guru Gobind Singh Ji intended with his creation of Khalsa with its striking visual identity that is designed to make Sikhs stand out and stand up – and run away to save their lives. That is totally wrong. And why do you fear so much the world? YOu can stop the proliferation of WMDs, genocide and epidemics by proaction not running away and letting others suffer. As for worrying about meteors and earth blowing in 4 BILLION YEARS time – really you are concerned with that when SIkhs are being imprisoned illegally and injustice visited upon them daily.

    • The Moghuls and the British EMpires too thought they could interfere in Sikh internal religious affairs and even Indira Ghandi thought she could meddle and usurp for her political gain. They were all wrong for Sikhi is still here and they are all gone and now remembered only for their villainy. This ambition you have of trying to undermine and infiltrate Sikhism’s Gurmat is doomed to failure and the sooner you realise this the better for everyone.

  2. We will not allow him to capture the Punjab state through a sponsored Indian Punjab Sarbatt Khalsa.
He has to go through elections to become the CM of Punjab .
If he wins the elections he may then sit on the chair of CM or the Modern day King of Punjab.
    No short cut to elections.

    • He does not want a governance role in Punjab, he is a Jathedar of the Sikh Panth – don’t you see the difference? Just because you are elected CM of Punjab does NOT give you any right to interfere in Sikh religion’s internal affairs as otherwise you could have a Hinduvta CM (or as in present case a Hinduvta proxy) dictating antithetical policies for Sikh faith to adopt (e.g. incorporating Ramayana into Gurmat). And stop talking about King of Punjab when you talk of elections – again can’t you tell that the two don’t go together, either you are a democracy or your are a feudal aristocracy. Leave the Sikh religion to the Sikhs – we will NOT allow you to interfere in our faith’s internal affairs.

  3. The Gentleman should try to win the 2017 elections rather than trying to by pass the constitutionals process to become the

    “KING OF PUNJAB”

They must have open debates on PTV between the different group leaders like the ones presidents of USA presidential elections .
This way the public can know what they are planning for us and our future generations.

We need to follow the American Presidential system of elections.

    • What has this got to do with elections? This is a matter of Sikh religion’s internal affairs. State and Central Government need to keep their noses well clear of our faith as there is no place for their politicking there any more than there is for democracy and a ‘King of Punjab’ – the two are totally contrary.
