Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa Asks Government To Deliver Promise for Release of Political Prisoners

2015-02-17_bapu_surat_singh-355x266LUDHIANA, Punjab—In a press note shared with Sikh24, 83 years old Sikh activist Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has warned the Badal Government to step up its efforts for the release of political Sikh prisoners.  In the press note, Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has stated that the Punjab government should remain ready to face serious consequences if it doesn’t consider the issue of premature release of political Sikh prisoners.

Bapu Surat Singh started that the it was the duty of Governments to work for the well being of different communities.  “These prisoners have completed their sentences, and despite having promised various times for their permanent release, the Government has again gone quiet,” Bapu ji stated.  He said that the Punjab government and the Union Government of India are equally responsible for the plight of political prisoners who are languishing in jails for years.

Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has been on hunger strike since January 16, 2015 seeking release of political Sikh prisoners who have already served mandatory sentences.
