RAJASTHAN, India—In September 2014, a session court in Hanumanghar (Rajasthan) convicted Baba Naginder Singh and Nirmal Singh Kharliya, to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of cult leader Suraj Muni in 2012.

The actions of Suraj Muni and his followers, had triggered protests in different states of India for desecrating the Guru Granth Sahib which was thrown in a canal located on the Malout-Dabwali Road. Haryana police had previously registered a case against Suraj Muni and his cult for hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community which led to his arrest but he was later released on bail.
