:dateline:A memorandum about the challenges being faced by the Sikhs in France was yesterday given to the French President Franois Hollande during his visit to Chandigarh by United Sikhs. The memorandum was transferred to the French President via the Consulate of France, in New Delhi.
Confirming the development, Bhai Gurpreet Singh of United Sikhs saidthat they had approached the French Consulate in New Delhi seeking appointment with French President during his Chandigarh visit. He added that the French Consulate shared that the schedule was already stretchedbut had promised to facilitate a meeting with French President during his visit to New Delhi on February 21 or 23. He added that the French Consulate however called him onphone on the eveof the Presidents visit and asked him to send them the memorandum directly.
The French Consulate transferred the memorandum to French President and has promised to facilitate meeting with him on February 21 or February 23 he added.
Sadly, no other Sikh body, most notably the SGPC made the effort ofraising the Sikh issues with French President despite a number of years of rhetoric, in displaying a small period of vocal support for the plight of Sikhs in France, who are refused the wearing of the dastar (turban) in any official capacity.
The SGPC had tried to claim that it approached Prime Ministers office but theirclaims were later refutedby Officials of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The French President will carefully file this memorandum in his bin alongside his Nation’s integrity as his mission was to sell jet fighters to the Indian Sarkar just as the venal British PM did in 1984 (although being British Thatcher sold a defunct aircraft carrier so was being duplicitious as well as hypocritical)
