Letters: Are Badals Looking To “Replace” Ex-Jathedars

In view of deep anger prevailed among Sikh masses against the ex-Jathedars of Sikh Takhts situated in Punjab, Badal family which is at the helm of the affairs of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), is planning to replace the appointed Jathedars with those who carry better reputation, revealed sources.

However, the problem being faced by Badals is that they have failed to persuade any reputed Sikh personality who can give positive impression, for the post. Insiders have revealed that Badals finally realized that the traditional vote bank of the SAD was unhappy over the controversial edict issued by Akal Takht appointed Jathedar Gurbachan Singh and other Jathedars to pardon Sirsa based cult head Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

Later, sacrilege incidents of Guru Granth Sahib happened across the state and dismissal of Panj Pyare of Akal Takht Sahib have further maligned the image of the Punjab government. Although, the SAD (B) organized Sadbhawna rallies across the state, but ground reality suggests that anger still continues to prevail among the people.

It is notable that Panj Pyare of the Akal Takht Sahib had directed the SGPC to remove Gurbachan Singh and appointed ‘Jathedars’ of other Takhts for their anti-Sikh decisions which had hurt Sikh sentiments. Instead of following this direction, it dismissed the Panj Pyare despite the fact that latter’s decision was supported by majority of the Sikhs across the world. The SGPC also ignored the aspect that institution of Panj Pyare has supreme status in Sikh religion.

The move of dismissing the Panj Pyare was condemned by Sikhs whose pressure has forced Badal family to think over the removal of incumbent appointed Jathedars.

In the coming weeks, it will be interesting to note if the Akali Dal is able to find replacement Jathedars.  Pressure is mounting upon the Akalis to act fast, as the appointed acting Jathedar Gurmukh Singh has asked to be replaced.

  1. You can put on new trousers to cover the rotten leg to make it look less unsightly but if it has gangrene only recourse to save the rest of the body is to amputate the gangrene. SGPC has been thoroughly infiltrated and corrupted by the Badals and their Hinduvta paymasters and can do no good for Sikhism only slow death. We do NOT need a priesthood that decides which ‘Sikhs’ are allowed to into the precincts of the Darbar Sahib (and which they decide need to be arrested and handed over to philistines for ‘disturbing’ them whilst they line their pockets) and rejects the authority of the Panj Pyare and Sarbat Khalsa for the snake patronage of the Badal royal family. When the Akali-BaDal is rejected by the Sikh masses in the elections (despite the dirty tricks and devil’s deals they are starting to ramp up) they should take their SGPC eunuchs with them to go and bellydance for the Hinduvta mafia and rapper Ram Rahim at his private parties.
