Candidates interested incontesting the election will be able to nominate their names to the District Election Commissioner before the specified deadline. It is notable that Khadoor Sahib by-poll is fixed to be held on February 13. The seat had fallen vacant on November 18 after the acceptance of the resignation of MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki by the speaker of the assembly.
Meanwhile, the Akali Dal (Badal) has started it’s own preparations for this by-poll. The seat had remained dominated by veteran Akali leader Ranjit Singh Brahmpura but he was defeated by the Congress candidate Ramanjit Singh Sikki in the last assembly elections of 2012. Badal has recently distributed grants worth Rs. 200 million to the Panchayats of this constituency in the wake of the upcoming elections.
Sikh24 has learnt of internal conflict within the Congress party over the candidate to be nominated for this election. A local Congress leader is opposing the name of former MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki who is near to the State head of Congress, Captain Amarinder Singh.
Former AAP leader Bhai Baldeep Singh had earlier announced to contest the by-election as an independent candidate. Similarly, as per the recent statements Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and United Akali Dal will jointly contest this by-election.
