I think the multitude of Sikh parties (and this particularly an issue for parties like the United Akali Dal which should understand that the brand ‘Akali Dal’ has been poisoned by the Badal royal family) should all disband and form one political party with a brand new name and with no Sikhs over the age of 40 being allowed seats of leadership with a proviso that the subsequent two generations within that person’s immediate family being barred from public office to discourage dynasty building. It is a scorched earth policy to try and remove all previous contamination. This new party with its leaders should be completely financially transparent so that we know exactly what assets and interests each member has before going into power (so professional auditing) and how and by what means these have increased after power with a criminal offence for anyone depositing monies outside of Punjab either in cash or land purchases (so no dodgy Swiss bank accounts or investments abroad). Terms of office should be restricted to two terms maximum before retirement is mandatory. Nepotism and bribery of a public official should be a capital offence for both the person offering bribe and the one accepting it. The first five tiers of Punjab police across the board should all be pensioned off immediately if not indicted with a truth and reconciliation commission offering rewards for whistle blowing. All subsequent elections should be supervised by international monitors and election fraud also made a mandatory capital offence. Do this and Punjab politics will be clean in five years and the dignity of Sikh leadership halfway restored.
Well put
