Patiala Jail Lapse: Six jail employees indicted for tampering Jail records

rajoana pinky:dateline:Following the�complaint of the Jail Department, District Police of Patiala have reportedly indicted six jail employees including Assistant Jail Superintendent Jagmail Singh by registering a case in the Tripdi Police Station. �Case has been registered against these jail employees for tampering Jail records. As per information available from reliable sources, the complaint was made by the Jail Department after thoroughly probing the official records of Patiala jail.

It is notable that senior Journalist Kanwar Sandhu was called and manhandled by death row convict Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana in Central Jail of Patiala on December 19. Leakage of CCTV footage had compelled the Chief Minister Parkash Badal to appoint Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Jagpal Singh to probe the lapses in Jail security that facilitated unauthorized meeting between the two.

After probing the incident, the Commission has claimed that the record in Entry and Exit register of the Jail was altered by the Jail personnel after the incident got highlighted. Patiala Jail employees Jagmail Singh (Assistant Superintendent), �Kewal Singh, Nirbhai Singh, Mani Singh, Darshan Singh and Jarnail Singh have been indicted under sections 166 (Public servant disobeying law), 167 (Public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to cause injury), 218 (Public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to save person from punishment), 465 (forgery), 466 (forgery of the record of Court or public register), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (representing a forged document as genuine one) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. �

It is noteworthy that ASP Jagmail Singh was suspended on the same day of incident i.e. December 19. Meanwhile, the police have said that it would thoroughly probe the incident before filing charge sheet against accuses in the Court. Head of Police Station Tripdi told Sikh24 that the police would thoroughly dig into the case to trace the others responsible for the incident.
