Nanak: When the perfect Guru advises one of the safeguard against disease, then one does not suffer illness again. – Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, Page 259

Message: With the Guru’s wisdom we realize the presence of the Divine in us, and with his guidance we can use this “resource” to ease our pain and suffering. When we become conscious, our hearts are filled with divine virtues and attributes. Love for our Creator gets translated into love for creation and humanity. Understanding this and imbibing these values, we discipline the mind to control the senses. As a result negative thoughts and actions are minimized. Peace, calm and stability prevail. A combination of these mental states and a moderate lifestyle has a positive medicinal and psychological effect on our health and body.

Once we adopt the culture of living a balanced life, spiritually and physically, our pain and suffering does not completely cease, but instead we now have the spiritual strength to endure and fight these when they come our way.
