White House Petition: Demand The Release Of Supreme Religious Leader Of Sikhism, Jathedar Jagtar Singh Hawara

NYC, USA—A petition setup by Sikhs For Justice, has been launched to urge the President of the USA, Barrack Obama, to take up the plight of the newly installed leader of Sikhs worldwide.

The statement of the petition reads as follows:

“On Nov 10, Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, was elected as the supreme religious leader of 30 million Sikhs and Jathedar of Akal Takht.

Jathedar Hawara, has been incarcerated for assassinating Beant Singh, the then Chief Minister of Punjab. Beant was responsible for death of over 100,000 Sikhs and his death put an end to Genocide of Sikhs.

Jathedar Hawara, being pro-Khalistan, faces risks of being executed or killed ex-judicially. In 1993, another pro-Khalistan Jathedar, Gurdev Singh Kaunke was murdered by the Indian government.

Jathedar Hawara is undergoing “imprisonment till death” a sentence which flouts the fundamental principles of justice and continuous detention of a supreme religious leader will create will create discontentment in Sikhs.

We urge the President to seek the release of Jathedar Hawara from India.”

A campaign for the release of the Jathedar appears to be galvanizing Sikhs worldwide.
