International Sikh Sangat to Observe ‘Black Diwali’ Due to Ongoing Cases of Sacrilege in Punjab

ross_amrritsar_2LONDON, UK—Accepting the call of Sikh leaders in Punjab, Sikh sangat internationally has resolved to boycott fireworks during this year’s diwali.  Instead, Sikh sangat will be lighting lamps to raise awareness of the on-going cases of sacrilege in Punjab.

While there are efforts underway to oust the appointed Jathedars from the Takhts in Punjab, Giani Gurbachan Singh from Akal Takht Sahib also appealed to Sikh Sangat to boycott fireworks and refrain from taking part in any celebrations.  However, before his call, organizers of the Sarbat Khalsa had given a similar statement.

A number of Gurdwaras across United States, Canada and Europe have announced complete ban fireworks.  Sikh Sangat has been asked to light candles and lamps and take part in prayers at their Gurdwara Sahibs.  In addition, some Hindu mandirs also have announced to not have fireworks due to the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.

  1. No Lamps, No Sweets, No Candles, No Fireworks. Only Prayer. With all of the beadbi that has taken place, how can we think of even lighting lamps and candles. It is called Black Diwali for a reason. Instead pray for punjab, pray for the sikh panth, pray for peace. WJKK, WJKF.
