North American Sikh Summit Announces Support For Sarbat Khalsa

:dateline:Members of over 100 Gurdwaras and Sikh organizations met yesterday in Yuba City to discuss the ongoing crisis in Punjab. Representatives came from as far as Ontario, Canada and British Columbia to deliberate upon the issues relating to the Sikhs in Punjab and the diaspora. This was the first time in over 25 years that Sikh jathebandis came together to discuss solutions facing the community.

After much deliberation, the following three resolutions were passed –

1) The Sikh diaspora owes allegiance to guru Granth Sahib. As a sovereign state of people, we pass resolution to seek independence of Akal Takht Sahib.
2) We support Sarbat Khalsa and North American Sikhs will attend by sending a team of representatives. Our immediate call is to appoint interim Jathedars and seek proper procedures for establishment of Jathedars and Sarbat Khalsa by Vaisakhi 2016.
3) The summit calls for establishment of North American Sikh umbrella organization. It will be a coalition of Sikh organizations with every Gurdwara having 2 members and every organization having one representative.
