Sikh Leaders Send Bowl Full of Blood to Punjab Chief Minister

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—A number of prominent Sikh leaders and preachers today sent a bowl full of blood to the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal.  Before presenting their blood to the Chief Minister, Sikh leaders had resolved to peacefully protest outside Badal’s residence in Chandigarh.  However, as thousands of Sikhs approached the Mohali and Chandigarh border, they were blocked by a heavy police deployment.  Notably, MP Prem Chandumarja and Cabinet Minister Parminder Dhindsa negotiated with the Sikh leaders as Badal refused to allow protesters from entering Chandigarh.

Earlier today, protesters left Sri Fatehgarh Sahib under leadership of Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale, Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Bhai Panthpreet Singh, Baba Daler Singh Kheri, and other prominent personalities.  As they were blocked by the police, Sikh protesters raised the following demands –

  1. Immediate release of Rupinder Singh and his brother Jaswinder Singh
  2. Arrest of real culprits who desecrated Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s saroops
  3. Immediate action against the police officers who shot dead two Sikhs during the Faridkot protest

In response, the Punjab Government officials stated that Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh are still undergoing investigations and could not be released.  They said that the Government was already working on other demands.  However, Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal told the Government officials that the brothers must be released at once.  “We are willing to also have them undergo lie detection exams, however that can happen once they are released as well,” he said.  Officials advised the Sikh leaders to file bail for Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh and that the Government would not be opposed to do.  In response, Sikh leaders asked for a “written promise”.

Finally, at mid-night, as negotiations were not working out, police asked the Sikh protesters to halt the protest.  However, the protesters stated that they have resolved to send a bowl of blood to the Punjab Chief Minister and they would not return without doing that.  Finally, around 1:30 AM, blood was sent to the Chief Minister through his own representatives.
