Heave Police Force Blocks Sikh Sangat in Chandigarh; Sikh Leaders Refuse to Meet with Badal behind “Closed Doors”

—From Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Sikh preachers and Sikh sangat numbering in thousands left to peacefully protest outside the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal in Chandigarh.  The protesters were joined by leading ragis and katha vachaks, including Bhai Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale, Bhai Panthpreet Singh, Baba Daler Singh (Kheri) and others, including a number of scholars.  When the Sangat arrived at the Chandigarh-Mohali intersection, they were blocked by a heavy police force.

In Chandigarh, Sikh Sangat started a sit-down protest while reciting Waheguru simran.  Three demands were put forward to the Punjab Government –

  1. Immediate release of Rupinder Singh and his brother Jasvwnder Singh
  2. Arrest of real culprits who desecrated Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s saroops
  3. Immediate action against the police officers who shot dead two Sikhs during the Faridkot protest

While the Punjab Chief Minister has so far stayed away from the protests, three senior leaders of the Akali Dal met with the Sikh Sangat and Panthik leaders to discuss their demands.  Namely Prem Chandumajra and Sukhdev Dhindsa were amongst the Government representatives.  They offered to schedule a special meeting of Badal with Sikh leaders, however Panthik leaders refused to hold any “secret meetings” and asked the Government to appear in public in front of the Sangat.
