SGPC Likely To Appoint New Panj Piare, Despite Re-instatement of Original

2015-10-23_punj_piareAMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Despite their reinstatement as Panj Pyaras of Akal Takht Sahib, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is set to attempt to punish the Panj Pyare (five beloved ones of Guru) due to the five having demanded a summons to the five Jathedars.

Prior to this, the Panj Pyare — Bhai Satnam Singh Khanda, Bhai Mangal Singh, Bhai Major Singh, Bhai Satnam Singh and Bhai Tarlok Singh — were under the Head Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib. After being reinstated by the SGPC, they have been told to be accountable before the Dharam Parchar Committee.

The SGPC ask them to report Dharam Parchar Committee without clarifying on their coveted religious title associated with Akal Takht Sahib. The Gurdwara body did not even clarify the fate of their “Gurmata”  wherein they asked of termination of services of Jathedars of Takhts for pardon to Sirsa based controversial cultist Gurmeet Ram Raheem.

While talking to a journalist, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar has said Panj Pyare would perform duties as assigned by the committee and they may be assigned duties anywhere outside Amritsar or even outside the state.

Whereas, basic duties of Panj Pyaras perform is to organize “Amrit sanchar” at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, highest temporal seat of Sikhs, or anywhere and leading Nagar kirtans.

Talking about their “Gurmata”, the SGPC chief said the executive panel of the committee would decide over it in its next meeting.

As per insiders, other Singhs could be assigned duties of “Panj Pyare” at Akal Takht Sahib to keep them away from the Takht.

It is worth mentioning that the Panj Pyare took firm stand against controversial decisions Jathedars as per Sikh aspirations. Sikhs across the world have shown respect and appreciation for their stance for the betterment of the Sikh Panth.
