FARIDKOT, Punjab—Rupinder Singh Khalsa and his brother Jaswinder Singh who were arrested by the Police in relation to sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargadi village, were sent to jail till November 9 as per direction of a local court.
The Police produced both brothers in court on Monday after interrogating them for six days. During their production, Sikhs in huge number were present in the court complex to express solidarity with the brothers. Sikh leaders have condemned their arrests and blamed the police for fabricating their roles in the sacrilege case.
Amid heavy security arrangements, Rupinder Singh Khalsa who was injured in protest against the sacrilege incident, was brought to the court on a wheelchair. Only their kin were allowed to meet them.
The police have reportedly replaced Section 295 with 295A of the IPC in the FIR registered against them.
It is worth mentioning here that section 295A deals with outraging the religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs, whereas section 295 deals with destroying, damaging or defiling any place of worship, or any object held sacred by any class of persons with the intention of insulting the religion of any class of persons.
Rupinder Singh reportedly asked the judge why they had been arrested despite their innocence. The judge asked him to give his defense at the time of trial of the case.
Meanwhile, Sikhs present here, demanded their release citing that the Police wrongfully accuse them in sacrilege case.
