Makkar Announces Rs.1 Million for families of Police Shooting Victims

2015-10-16_bhai_krishan_singh AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee, Avtar Makkar has announced to provide financial aid of Rs.1 million each to the families of Shaheed Bhai Gurjit Singh and Shaheed Bhai Krishan Bhagwan Singh.

Both Singhs of village Behbal Klan (Faridkot) were shot by the police while protesting against the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in village Bargadi of District Faridkot. He informed that the Punjab government is facilitating medication to the injured Singhs.

2015-10-16_bhai_gurjeet_singhAppealing to SGPC members not to resign in these tough circumstances, he said that the SGPC members should do their duties instead removing themselves from their posts.

He appealed to Sikh devotees to maintain law and order in the state and suggested local Gurdwara Committeesand societies should organize an Akhand Path Sahib on October 19 and lay its bhog on October 21, in order to mourn the desecration of Holy Scriptures of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Emphasizing the need for tight security in local Gurdwaras, he appealed the Panchayats of villages across Punjab organize ‘Thikri Pehra’ for 24 hours to keep the Holy Scriptures safe and to attempt to capture the miscreants responsible for desecration.
