CHANDIGARH, Punjab—SGPC general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur today resigned from all posts of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).  He submitted his resignation as a protest against desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and killing of Sikh youth by the Punjab Police.

Sukhdev Singh Bhaur was a close aide of late Gurcharan Singh Tohra, former president of the SGPC.  After Tohra’s demise, SAD (B) pattern and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal never allowed him to play a leading role in the party. Although, Bhaur was a member of the political affairs committee of SAD (B), the post is worthless practically as all the members of the this committee have no right to effect party’s decision.

He has sent his resignation to the party president, Sukhbir Badal.

In his petition, he has mentioned clearly that his resignation is due to the sacrilege of Guru Granth sahib and the inaction of Government in this regard.
