The glass smashed and grandad Gurpal, 42, was sprayed with the alocohol as customers grappled with shoplifter Ronald Richardson.
Sikh Gurpal was left with hearing problems and a bump on the side of the head but said: “It was fortunate I had my black turban on as always.
“It saved me from more damage as the bottle broke. I could have been badly cut without it and prayed in thanks after.
“It was very odd – he had paid for the whiskey but tried to take a few bars of Dairy Milk worth £7.”
Richardson, 49, appeared in court on Friday and was ordered to pay £200 compensation to the shopkeeper. He admitted threatening behavior and assault at the corner shop in Nottingham on June 9.
Jobless Richardson of Nottingham got a 16-week suspended jail term and must obey a curfew for 12 weeks.
Finn Butler, in mitigation, said Richardson suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder because of family problems.
He was drinking eight cans of booze a day after his life “spiraled out of control” but had managed to cut down, it was heard.
Rudolph singh what gives you the right to criticize Jagdeesh singhs view how can any religious person from any religion encourage someone else to use any form of drug or participate in any form of intoxication, is it ok for a drug dealer to sell drugs to people answer no it is not.
Very interesting picture of this gentleman. He is pictured against a wonderful backdrop of alcohol bottles. So, he was attacked whilst selling alcohol to the public? Interesting! How the turban relates to this posionous practise, is a serious and cutting question. Maybe, somebody should enquire with the gentleman about his alcohol selling business activity, and how that is compatible with his Sikh turban. Or maybe it is, as every modern Sikhs are doing the same. Let’s all do the same. What hypocrisy and an insult to the ethics of the dastaar and sikhi!!!
Being Sikh also means respecting the other person. So you have a problem with him selling alcohol which means you have the problem and not so much the shop keeper. This is the problem with other religions, it is always about how we can change the other person whereas with a true Sikh, it is about changing ourselves. Not once did you say that you were glad this man survived the attack, instead you attack him again with your innuendos and self absorption. Who made you the “hall monitor” of other Jagdeesh Singh?
