SGPC changing birth anniversary for Guru Ramdas Ji this year

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Violating tradition of many years, the SGPC will this year celebrate birthday anniversary of Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, the fourth Nanak, on October 29 instead of October 9. Sikh devotees are in confusion over the Parkash Purab date and some Sikh bodies are planning to revolt against SGPC. It is notable that Guru Ram Dass Ji founded the holy city Amritsar.

Information available from reliable sources reveals that the dates have been changed since implementation of the Bikrami Calendar. From 2003 to 2014, the Gurpurab was celebrated on October 9 while this time it has been deferred to October 29. Sikh bodies like Akal Purakh Ki Fauj and Panthik Talmel Sangathan are strongly opposing the new date for celebrating Guru Ramdas Ji’s gurpurab. They have announced that celebration of the anniversary should take place on October 9.

Manager of Sri Darbar Sahib S. Partap Singh informed that various Gurmat Samagams will be held in Amritsar ranging from October 3 to October 29 regarding birthday celebration of Guru Ram Dass Ji.

Former SGPC member and Director of Akal Purakh Ki Fauj Advocate Jaswinder Singh has argued that unnecessary amendments in Nanakshahi Calendar has made it a Bikrami Calendar.
