Reliable sources informed Sikh24 that the confidential meeting lasted for only five minutes in which the President Avtar Singh Makkar read a half page resolution of approval explaining the SGPC member’s stand by the Jathedars’ verdict. Instead of putting the resolution before the members, Avtar Makkar himself declared it as ‘passed unanimously’.
Majority of the SGPC members present in the meeting raised their hands to seeking permission to demand clarification, but the SGPC President hurriedly adjourned the media barred meeting.
Reacting to proceedings of meeting, SGPC member Bibi Kiranjot Kaur said, “What was the need for holding such a meeting if no one was to be allowed to express his/her opinion on the issue?”
“Such a resolution could have been passed even without calling the meeting” she added.
Addressing the media gathering, SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar claimed to have passed the resolution of approval unanimously. Refusing to share the details of the meeting he said, “In the larger interest of communal peace and harmony in Punjab, SGPC supports the decision of Sri Akal Takht Sahib”.
