District Administration calm tensions over demolition of Gurdwara Sahib in Pathankot

Pathankot, Haryana—The district administration of Pathankot sorted out the clash between management of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary School and sangat of Gurdwara Sant Ashram over demolishing of Gurdwara sahib, by arranging a meeting between two factions. Sub’d District Magistrate Amit Mahajan and Sub Tehsildar Gopal Sharma were present in the meeting while the Deputy Commissioner and District Police Commissioner of Pathankot was present but they didn’t take part in the meeting.

President Gurdeep Singh Arora, Swaraj Singh Noorpuri, Massa Singh, Taranjit Singh Romi, Dr. K.D. Singh, Jasbir Singh were representing the management of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary School while Jathedar jasbir Singh Sandhu, Bhai Manpreet Singh, S.S Bawa, Bhai Sukhpal Singh Bhagwansar and Advocate Kuldeep Singh Gunna participated on the Gurdwara Sahib.

Bhai Manpreet Singh and Dr. K.D. Singh informed that the issue was sorted on following conditions:

  1. Management of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary School will appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib and will serve the punishment announced from there.
  2. Management of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary School will arrange arrange funds for rebuilding the Gurdwara Sahib and the Gurdwara Sahib will be rebuilt under guidance of an independent construction committee.
  3. Parking lot adjacent to Gurdwara Sahib will be made available to both School personnel and sangat of Gurdwara Sahib.

Dr. K. D Singh thanked the civilians for maintaining law and order in this tense situation, while the Deputy Commissioner Sukhwinder Singh refused comment on the situation arguing that he doesn’t want get involved in religious controversy.   

It may be recalled that Gurdwara Sant Ashram in Pathankot was demolished by the management of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary School using JCB’s during night. This shameful act had sparked sharp reaction among Sikhs and they started gathering Pathankot to punish the accused. But the administration arrested 14 Singhs under preventive detention law.
