Derby, UK— The Akaal Primary School, the first Sikh school in Derby, opened it’s doors yesterday to 120 pupils.
The Sikh school will have classes for reception and year 1 pupils. This is now an addition to the 252 free schools which are already open across the country, with a further 52 set to open this month.
Dr Daljit Singh Virk, the chairman of Akaal Academy, said, “The schools will provide a values-based education and a greater choice of primary schools in Derby. We are creating an outstanding school where all pupils will achieve highly.
The Government has announced it will continue it’s programme of free schools, with Prime Minister David Cameron saying he will “not waiver” in his commitment to open 500 new free schools over the next five years.
