:dateline:Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, a political Sikh convict on death row in the case of assassination of former Chief Minister Beant “Singh”, has written a letter to the President of India seeking explanation on whythere has been delay in his execution. In the letter penned on August 22, Bhai Rajoana asked for termination of theconstitutional review petition filed by the Punjab Government, SGPC and DSGMC against his death penalty.

Copy of the letter shared with Sikh24 by his sister Kamaldeep Kaur reveals that Bhai Rajoana has justified the assassination of the Chief Minister Beant “Singh”. Letter states thatit was a need of the hour, otherwise Beant “Singh” would have continued murdersof Sikh youth across Punjab.
It is noteworthy that Bhai Rajoana did notcontest the case asserting distrust in the constitution of India. Death warrants were issued against him on March 13, 2012 by a trial court of Chandigarh. This led to protests across Punjab and all over the world, and consequently a petition was filed without his consent to seek termination of his death penalty. The then President of India had suspended Bhai Rajoanas execution, however, after three years,Bhai Rajoana has sought explanation why the court’s orders have not been carried out.
