German Yoga Center To Remove Engraved Gurbani from Stairs After Complaints

2015-08-19_hamburg_yogaHAMBURG, Germany—Engraving of the “Mool Mantar” on the stairs of a Yoga center in Hamburg, Germany, had caused uproar within the Sikh community.  Owner of the center, Satya Singh, mentioned that this was an unintentional mistake.  “Our intention to put the Mool Mantra on the stairs was to uplift and inspire the people who enter the yoga center with this beautiful message,” said Satya Singh.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Satya Singh stated –

“Since a few days the official entrance of the yoga center has been closed and has not been passable. The stones of the stairs will get removed tomorrow. We will renew the stairway with a neutral surface within the following days.”

Strongly condemning the engraving of Gurbani scriptures on stairs and pavement of the Yoga center in Hamburg, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee had sought legal action against the ashram management. President of the SGPC, Avtar Singh Makkar had requested the diplomatic intervention of Foreign Ministry.

In a press note shared with Sikh24, Additional Secretary of the SGPC, Diljit Singh Bedi had stated that the inscription of Gurbani scriptures on the floor leads to disrespect. He said that the management of Yoga ashram had hurt the Sikh sentiments by committing severe discourtesy of the sacred Gurbani scriptures.
