LUDHIANA, Punjab—Bapu Surat Singh has welcomed the much awaited step undertaken by Punjab Administration to amend the “Good Conduct Prisoners Act” of 1962 in order to simplify the procedure of granting parole to prisoners within the state jails. He weighed in that this was a result of Global Sikh Sangat’s awareness campaign and Sangat within India was holding Punjab Administration accountable for its apathy towards its declared Panthik agenda manifesto.

Terming it as step in right direction however late it is, Bapu Surat Singh has urged the administration to walk the walk and expedite the process being deliberated since meetings started with Sangharsh Committee on February 16.  Bapu Surat Singh warned that this should not somehow turn into Parole Board that was suggested by state officials as that would be a diversion and distraction.

Bapu Surat Singh further stated that Punjab government should honour its promises made to Sangharsh Committee members about releasing all those detained, work on permanent Paroles and unconditionally release those who have served time.
