Bapu Surat Singh’s Strike: Panthik Bodies Give Ultimatum to Badal Govt

LUDHIANA, Punjab—In wake of critical health condition of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa who is on hunger strike since January 16, various Panthik bodies have given ultimatum to Parkash Badal led Punjab government to take action for release of Sikh political prisoners who have completed their jail terms, till August 4.

Under the banner of Bandi Sikh Sangharsh Committee, representatives of various Panthik organizations organized a press conference after the meeting. They said that if the government would fail to take necessary action, they would launch the battle of through and through.

“If the government would not take the step, we would submit memorandums to president of India, speaker of Lok Sabha and chairman of Raj Sabha”, they decided in the meeting which was attended by representatives of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani), Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi), Dal Khalsa, United Akali Dal,  Akali Dal (1920), Sarbat Khalsa Lehar and other personalities.

The Sikh leaders said that they had passed a resolution that a penal of lawyers would be constituted with the consent of Bapu Surat Singh to take legal measures to ensure release Sikh political prisoners. This panel would be assigned to move Supreme Court.  

Bhai Dhian Singh Mand, Bhai Wassan Singh Jaffarwal, Jaswant Singh Mann, Jaskaran Singh Kahansingh Wala, Gurnam Singh Sidhu, Jaswinder Singh Baliewal, Advocate Amar Singh Chahal, Advocate Baljinder Singh Sodhi, Manwinder Singh Giaspura, Karnail Singh Panjoli, Baba Avtar Singh Sur Singh Wale, Manjinder Singh Jandi, Bhai RP Singh, Harbhajan Singh Kashmiri, Parmjit Singh Sahauli, Jaspal Singh Heran and Satnam Singh Manawa were among those who attended the meeting.

It is pertinent to mention that Bapu Surat Singh is demanding release of Sikh prisoners who are languishing in various jails of India despite completion of their terms. He is going unconscious due to prolonged fast and the administration is giving medical treatment to him forcefully in DMC hospital here.
