

:dateline:Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday installed portrait of late Baba Uttam Singh Kar Sewa (Khadur Sahib)at the�Central Sikh Museum (Sri Darbar Sahib). Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh unveiled the portrait in presence of noted Sikh personalities and office bearers of the SGPC.
It is worth mentioning that Baba Uttam Singh was great personality brimmed with Panthik spirit. He had always supported Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. When Sant Bhindranwale was released from Jodhpur Jail, Baba Uttam Singh along with Sikh Sangat reached the jail to welcome him. He inspired many Sikh youths to participate in Dharam Yudh Morcha. Sant Bhindranwale had�deep respect to him.
Baba Ji announced free education for children of martyrs� families in the educational institutes run under him. He helped Sikh freedom fighters�through various ways.
In 1986, when Kar Sewa of rebuilding of Sri Akal Takht Sahib which was demolished by the Indian troops in June, 1984 was assigned to great personages of Sikh Panth, Baba Ji was one of them. He performed Kar Sewa of Gurdwaras of Khadur Sahib, Nankana Sahib,�Data Bandi Chhod Gwalior (MP) and many other historical Gurdwaras.



In 1970, Baba Ji established Sri Guru Angad Dev College at Khadur Sahib and in 1984 and 1987 he founded public schools at Khadur Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib (Jalandhar) respectively for imparting quality education.
Couple of days ago, executive penal of the SGPC passed a resolution to install the portrait of the former head of Kar Sewa sect. �A religious ceremony held in this regard inside the museum during which Sri Darbar Sahib�s Hazuri Ragi Bhai Satinderbir Singh sang Gurbani Kirtan.
Addressing the gathering, Giani Gurbachan Singh remembered the deeds done by Baba Uttam Singh to give the practical shape to Sikh principles. He also lauded his successor and noted environmentalist Baba Sewa Singh for making efforts of providing quality education to the rural and underprivileged youth and safeguarding eco-system of the earth by planting trees in large number.
Damdami Taksal (Mehta) chief Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa said that life of the great soul like Baba Uttam Singh would keep inspiring the humanity and to install his portrait was quite appreciable. He also put light of memorable life events of Baba Uttam Singh.
The SGPC secretary Roop Singh said those personalities who made contribution for the community, deserved for their place in this museum. Baba Sewa Singh was also honoured by the Akal Takht Jathedar on the occasion.
Sri Darbar Sahib head Granthi Giani Jagtar Singh, Granthi Giani Ravel Singh, Granthi Giani Amarjit Singh, Bhai Manjit Singh, SGPC�s executive committee member Gubachan Singh Karmuwala, Baba Balwinder Singh, Baba Avtar Singh Sursingh Wale, Baba Bachan Singh Kar Sewa Delhi, Baba Jit Singh Sirsa, Baba Kashmir Singh Kar Sewa Bhoori Wale, Baba Lakha Singh Gwalior, SGPC additional secretary Diljit Singh Bedi etc. were among those who attended the ceremony.
