:dateline:Punjab & Haryana High Court bench headed by Justice Paramjit Singh today dismissed the petition filed by Chandigarh police to get police remand of Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara in Chief Minister Beant “Singh” assassination case. It is notable that the Chandigarh police had moved a petition in High court on March 10 seeking 14 days police remand of Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara.

Advocate Harnam Singh Bhullar told Sikh24 that the High Court dismissed the petition on the grounds of prior bail given to Bhai Tara by the lower court in the same case. The court said that it could not furnish the request for police remand since a lower court had already granted bail in the case. ”Decision of bail by the lower court could be challenged in High Court,” the court added.

Sikh Intellectual and former Professor of Sikhism, S. Gurtej Singh IAS has said that CM Beants assassination was a political act arising out of existential concerns of the Sikh people.

It may be recalled that Bhai Tara was recently arrested from Thailand and deported to India in January 2015 after his escapefrom Burail Jail in 2004 along with Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and Bhai Paramjit Singh Bheora.
